Timed Out
Finding Peace in the Perpetual Now
There is a lot going on in the world. In reality, that is always the case. It’s a colorful, adventurous journey, splattered with pain and fear — joy and love — war and peace. No matter the decade, the year, the month, the day, what matters most is that we are here.
We are here with our anxiety, with our hopes, with our uncertainty. We are bounced around between biased news, hateful rhetoric, polarizing opinions and, if we’re lucky, we stumble upon a sense of community and togetherness. The best part of it all is that we wake up each morning and get to experience the tumultuous ride all over again.
What I think is helpful, in times that may feel uncertain, is to see the mere fact that you are here as an absolute gift. Of course, as is often the case, I received a quote in my inbox this morning, after I wrote this piece and just before I published it. The quote by Henry James sums up what I have been feeling:
“The right time is any time that one is still so lucky as to have.”
The Gift of the Morning
Like James said, the right time is always now, because we are so fortunate to have any time at all. The odds of us being here are staggering. Yet here we stand, and if we get the opportunity to stand again tomorrow, then we are even luckier.
There is a Buddhist metaphoric belief that we die every night and are born again each day. This philosophy is so impactful to me. It reminds us that the only reality is the one happening right now.
This idea that we can completely let go of anything that occurred during the day is absolutely freeing. When you lay your head on your pillow at night, the day is now a memory. We should not, and really cannot measure time by just hours or days. Instead, we can feel protected by the sense of timelessness — this idea that every single day is a birth.
What are you going to do with this new life that you are gifted each and every day?
Happy Birthday to You!
The calendar tells us today is Tuesday, March 3, 2026, but our souls know better. Today is not another one to mark off on the calendar: It is rather a new existence. It is also an opportunity for growth. It is an opportunity for change. It is an opportunity to create joy, to embrace love and to smile at a stranger.
There is a beautiful quote by Lebanese poet and writer Khalil Gibran:
“The timeless in you is aware of life’s timelessness. And knows that yesterday is but today’s memory and tomorrow is today’s dream.”
What I really love about this quote is the reminder that life is not happening in the past or in the future. It is happening right now. Gibran‘s thoughts about time as a flowing stream remind us of our own boundlessness — our own presence, amidst immeasurable days.
What is the first moment that inspires you in a new day? What is the first song you hear? What is the first taste you enjoy? It is all new and undiluted in a sense.
Time, Your Sacred Companion
I know that we cannot escape pain, nor can we escape fear, but we can travel side-by-side with the passage of time in a more seamless fashion. We can stack up more courage to handle challenges and losses. We can also collect more gratitude for the gift of today.
We can experience life more directly instead of watching the hands on the clock or the days on the calendar. We can let our spirit remain ageless.
Rumi, a 13th century Persian mystic and poet, is one of my favorite and most influential writers. Rumi saw life as having a perfect rhythm. He saw time as being circular rather than a confined journey with a beginning and an end. Rumi spoke a lot of timelessness:
“If you dwell on the past or future, you will miss the moment.”
Similar to Gibran’s thoughts on time, Rumi’s words highlight this concept of timelessness. These writers’, scholars’ and philosophers’ words do not provoke us to ignore obligations and schedules but rather they inspire us to change our relationship with time.
Find Your Stillness and Sit With It
You can find more meaning in your life, and you can reduce the stress in it by reframing your idea of today. If these thoughts seem foreign or even unapproachable to you, try just sitting still. Take a few minutes of silence by consciously putting down your phone or turning off the TV.
Allow yourself to experience this idea of the clock’s rhythm. Remind yourself this moment is actually perfect. You are part of the continuous flow.
Tonight when you lay your head down on the pillow to go to sleep, leave your mistakes and fears and heavy thoughts behind. Turn off the news and reflect on just being. Exhale the worry, noise and fear and let it all go.
Tomorrow morning, don’t just wake up and think about the tasks at hand. Instead, take a moment to inhale in the newness of this new opportunity — this chance to be here … to embrace the gift … to start over … to let go of fear … to be lighter … to be more present … to enjoy the gift of being.
I know you’re going to start scrolling and getting immersed in the noise before long. It seems inevitable. So, take those still moments. They are all we’ve got, and they are everything.

Love hearing your voice. This is exactly what I needed. So true.
miss you, Dawn
Beautiful piece to remind us that each day is a gift. Yesterday is a memory, the future is unknown and
today is our present. Thank you for this.
